Having a boundless creativity, I am interested in several mediums. VeKA was born out of a deep need to connect with people and express the creativity that lives in me. The term VeKA is best explained in French. The “VE” is from the word "VErs", which means to go towards, and KA is what Egyptians referred to as our Vital Force, which is the light we all carry, the pure light of our hearts. To meet with one’s inner light/sun often requires a passage through one’s “night" (or shadow). Every Being deserves to be treated with dignity and every story deserves to be heard and acknowledged. With VeKA I seek to help people discover themselves and explore their authenticity, not removing myself from this quest. I also have a need to be seen for who I am.

A 76-year-old astrologer (the beautiful Claudette) once told me, "Isabel, when you are in your hands, you are in your heart."

And so, with this, I share my offerings to you,

I was born and raised in Ottawa, Canada by a Spanish father and a French-Canadian mother (add a younger brother 2 and a half years in).

Ottawa being such a conservative, capitalistic city, it kept things neat and quiet for me during my younger years. When I started approaching adulthood, things shifted.

Like most, my teens were HAAARD! Being the Aries rising Leo that I am, needless to say I had a strong rebellious flame. But I didn’t rebel by doing drugs and alcohol. I rebelled by questioning and lashing out at “conformity”. That’s when I started to hate the word “Normal”.

I struggled with my sexual orientation, always thinking that I had to “pick a side” to be on, or a team “to bat for” … (lol). Turns out, I didn’t! When I started talking about it to friends and family, it wasn’t well received by most. The world was still so damned close minded.

Following a few pretty crazy events (I could write a book about my life), I decided to move to Montreal. I was 22.

It was just the change of scenery I needed! I burst open … almost literally! I had a fantastic first few years, although still in great rebellion against everything I was taught (whether it was from my family or societal norm).

Then, at 25, I met someone who would have a huge impact on the rest of my life. To this day I don’t know how to refer to her.. my witch doctor, my shaman, my therapist? She was, Dawn. And she woke me up to my soul and to everything spiritual.

For more than 15 years I explored different jobs/career paths (I think my family still cringes at the instability… lol), going from waitressing, to being a doula/spiritual midwife, to real estate and various office jobs including being a purchaser in the video game industry. Amongst all this chaos, what has always stayed with me is my love for art, Nature and people.
